What are reserved acts?

Reserved procedures are high-risk procedure that may only be performed by authorized personnel. This is regulated by law. This law, the Individual Health-care Professions Act (Wet BIG), lists the specific reserved procedures.

Who is allowed to perform reserved acts?

Only a qualified and authorized healthcare provider may perform reserved procedures. In practice, this means, for example, a nurse or a physician. A registered nurse may not perform reserved procedures independently, but only on the instructions of a physician or nurse practitioner.

Simply having a diploma is not sufficient to be able to perform reserved actions as a healthcare provider. In addition to sufficient knowledge, you must also have sufficient skill to be able to perform the action. In other words, you have to be competent and competent.
